INTRODUCING . . . OUR NEW ART CENTER DIRECTOR!

Hello, everyone! My name is Nicole Pitts and I am honored to step into the role of Director of Oskaloosa Art Center and Studios. After graduating from Grand View University in 2014 with a degree in Art Education, I spent the next twelve years teaching visual arts to students across all grade levels, K–12. I loved helping students find inspiration, grow through both success and failure, and rise beyond their own expectations. I also enjoyed making connections to other content areas—particularly reading, science, history, and culture—to help students engage more deeply with the world around them.

In 2019, I earned my Master of Science in Education from Drake University, further strengthening my approach to creating engaging and authentic learning experiences for students of all ages. Alongside my time in education, I’ve spent many years working as a freelance artist and graphic designer. You may have seen my large murals featured during the Tulip Time Festival in Pella, or the conductor paintings on the metal facade while strolling the historic Trolley alleyway in Oskaloosa.

My personal artwork is often inspired by a desire to bring people together through shared experiences and to uplift others through visual storytelling and connection. Now living in Oskaloosa with my husband and our two children, I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to give back to the community that shaped me. I look forward to offering engaging classes, developing innovative and inclusive programming, and continuing the cultivation of a lasting appreciation for the arts in our community.
