Creating Art and Community
See What's New!
GivingTuesday lands on November 28th this year. We are asking our supporters for donations to Fine Arts and Cultural Events (FACE) of Mahaska County's Youth Art Scholarship Fund. Every penny that is given goes to kids who otherwise would not be able to participate in arts programming at the Oskaloosa Art Center. We need to refill this fund at the end of each year. Your contribution will make an impact, whether you donate $5 or $500. Every little bit will help us continue in our efforts to provide exceptional fine arts education to every child within our reach.
Here is more information about Fine Arts and Cultural Events of Mahaska County: We are an Iowa arts non-profit operating the Oskaloosa Art Center and Studios, the Oskaloosa Sculpture Workshop and more visual arts programs in our county. Our mission: We strive to provide exceptional arts education and making art accessible and exciting to our community.
In the Gallery:
We welcome artist, Akwi Nji, to the Art Center Gallery! Her show, titled The Remoir Project, will be exhibited through the end of November. Closing reception for Akwi's work will be held in October.
"The fabrics and the stories they tell are a reflection of who we are in our everyday lives -- our values, our dreams, our fears, our joys and woes, the experiences that inform our beliefs, the experiences from which we grow -- and what makes us whole.
""Whether it's an old tablecloth, a father's golf towel, a wedding dress, beach towel, curtain, pillowcase, or pair of jeans -- we all have items of fabric within our home that hold significant memories. This is a chance to share those memories as stories, honor the experiences they represent, release them into the world, and give the fabric new life as art." -Akwi
